World Peace - micro action plan?

Comments

Rachel, what you are doing is enough, if everyone did their own part it helps and believe it or not you are putting out the right energy that will help. I see it like this if I treat everyone the way I want to be treated then all will be good and those that treat me harshly are only confused and hurt and I should show them forgiveness and compassion so they can learn that not all people are harsh.

If you find that petition please let me know
World Peace definitely starts at the grass roots level and it is a very good point that you have made Rachel.

Worker's comment is correct.

I am not sure if you have read the "About this group" for our group United for Peace but if you read it you will notice that I have mentioned the need for peace to start in our own hearts and homes and you will see a link to World Peace which actually does have strategies to try and achieve that very thing. So click on the link and you will see that things are being done to bring peace to our homes.

You will also see some of the quotes I have used in the "About this group" also raising the very point you have brought up.

We won't be able to change everyone's actions but eventually there is a point called the "critical mass" where enough people are behind a goal and a domino effect occurs.

"It is from numberless diverse acts of courage and belief that human history is shaped. Each time a man stands up for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, he sends forth a tiny ripple of hope, and crossing each other from a million different centers of energy and daring, those ripples build a current that can sweep down the mightiest walls of oppression and resistance." - Robert F Kennedy

Thanks Worker and Chezza for your comment. I really appreciate them and I really hope you are right.

What concerns me most is that the ripple of hope to world peace only reaches to those who are already open minded and willing to accept the differences. But what can we do to stop those people who shut their mind and passing on their hate to next generation? I have a doubt that those ripple of hope will never reach them.

The only solution I can think of is to teach children to break the cycle and guide them to be open minded and coach them the practical life skill how to cope with differences in our lives. Instead, I hear increased number and severity of bullies at school.

I am not being pessimistic about world peace, but I feel the needs in practical action plans.

I apologise that I just spat out my feelings without doing homework. I will try to post researched and constructive contributions when I get better.

I agree that it is always individuals who will drive change about anything. If we wait for governments, we'd have the Cronulla riots everyday. But I guess it is tough because a one-person army against millions doesn't seem very fair at all. All the same, we must try. I was once an active Taekwon-do practitioner and even trained once with the late founder, Gen Choi Hong Hi. There are five tenets of TKD that I have never forgotten: Courtesy, Intergrity, Perseverance, Self-Control and Indomitable Spirit. They're pretty powerful and while TKD isn't a religion, I also find much of the true foundations of traditional martial arts very honourable and can be spiritually uplfting. I hope you understand what I'm getting at here.

Hey Ninja or Shintaro (he he he)

I never practised martial arts, but I agree that foundation of the teaching is valuable and honourable.

Until my health condition improves, all I can do is to keep trying to become a person I can proud of. And it is quite a challenge by itself...

In a mean time, the World Peace has one little person on his/her side and it is still better than nobody at all.

Rachel your input is valuable the more input the better. I feel like I am made to feel stupid sometimes with some of the stuff that I say and feel like I haven't researched something thoroughly, but now I think oh stuff it my intentions are pure and I am not out to win political or debating point scoring, I am here to raise my concerns and try and unite this world the best way I can and that is by being a fair and understanding person.

Now the bullying in schools issue. You can relax about that issue. There appears to be more bullying in schools because it is being addressed by many schools, so there is more reporting of it. Most schools (government schools have to) have a programme set in place to reduce bullying in schools and if a school is aware of a situation and doesn't take appropriate action, then action can be taken against the school. A school has an obligation to protect all students. I am confident that there are students coming out of our schools with much better leadership skills in many areas than ever before.

Martial Arts: I believe if the true teachings are followed then it is a very noble practice and people could learn a lot from the philosophy incorporated into martial arts.

Bullying

I thought about the reason for increased number was because we are educated and report more incidents. But I just cannot believe that is the only reason.

I watched news on improved system to deal with bullying, and I really hope it will bring back compassion and sence of right and wrong to young people.

Because if we all keep these quality and practice them, we wouldn't be discussing about world peace today. Well, I know things cannot be that simple, but you know what I mean...
